Plastic Fantastic – Consumerism In A Cashless Society

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The drinks have been ordered, the jackets are off and the table has been occupied. All that remains is to pay the bar, and then settle down with friends and chill for the night. Except one thing; the bar can’t be paid as that all important trip to the ATM was overlooked. Cue the walk of shame back to the table to ask to borrow some money.

This is increasingly becoming less of a problem, however, as more and more bars accept plastic as payment. Coupled with the fact that more and more people choose to do their shopping online, or use “chip and pin” when they do use a normal shop, it could be argued that cash is almost becoming obsolete.

Some major retailers have even suggested recently that they would consider introducing “cashless tills”. And with pre-paid credit cards becoming an increasingly common feature of UK consumer culture, the future of notes and coins does indeed look bleak. But there are still issues that are worth considering when using cards as a primary method of payment, as more and more people are discovering these days.

For example, when checking in to a hotel, they will often ask for a credit card to “secure” payment for the room. No payment is taken from the card, but what some people don’t realise is that a segment of the balance of the card is ‘put-aside’ by the hotel as security; effectively meaning that the available balance has been reduced for the duration of their stay. So, if the customer then decides to go out shopping, or out for a meal, there is a danger the card could be rejected, as they hadn’t factored in this “secured” section of the card.

So, to avoid having to do kitchen duties in the local bistro, it’s maybe worth considering obtaining a second credit card, just for those occasions where, for one reason or another, the main credit card is rejected.

Of course, another reason why a credit card may be rejected is simply because not enough care has been taken in seeking out the best deal and the card has been “maxed out”. With this in mind, it may be worth considering a new credit card, with many offering 0% interest on balance transfers for up to 12 months. So, by doing very little, a lot of money can be saved.

For the time-being at least, cash still plays a part in UK consumer culture. But with consumer culture gradually moving towards plastic ubiquity, there may be a day where notes and coins will be obsolete. So, embrace it, and find the best deals now.

How To Spruce Up Your Patio

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Tired of the same boring patio? Why not give it a makeover? Here are some tips that you can use in sprucing up your patio:

Fill it up with chairs

One way of upgrading the appearance of your patio is through the addition of chairs. Choose high-quality chairs like Adirondack rocking chairs or Amish-made rocking chairs made from the finest hard wood. These chairs will provide you with the comfort and relaxation you need while staying in your patio. Also, when choosing a rocking chair, keep in mind the type of material used. Make sure that the wood used in the construction of the rocking chair is weather-resistant and sturdy. If you’re not a fan of chairs, maybe you should buy a hammock instead. It is still comfortable to chill in, pleasant to look at, and inexpensive to purchase. Also, like the rocking chair, the hammock sways.

Put a cute tiny table

Where there are chairs, there are at least one table. Add a cute tiny table that is made preferably from the same type of wood material as the chairs. Matching chairs and tables will certainly add up to the flair of your patio. Choose a table that is simple yet stylish. Like the chairs, your table must be weather-resistant since it will be staying outdoors for a long time. The table is a good spot to place your cold drinks or afternoon snacks while you’re enjoying a little sun outside the house. The table is certainly a good addition to your patio!

Buy an outdoor whirlpool bathtub.

Why not purchase your very own whirlpool bathtub? You will have the chance to experience the soothing sensation provided by the whirlpool effects of the water. It is recommended for people who are stressed by work or school because it relaxes the muscles and cleanses the skin. Since the tub is quite spacious, you can also enjoy it with your friends. You can catch up on the latest Hollywood gossips and the recent prime-time soap episodes while eliminating those unwanted dirt and dead cells off your bodies. Now that is relaxation!

Add some useful gadgets and pretty accessories.

Decorate your patio with some useful gadgets. Add outdoor heaters or fireplaces to add warmth in your patio during cold weathers. If you want, you can also add a mosquito-inhibitor or an insect-control unit that keeps insects and other pests away from your place. For an added personal touch, you can also put in some accessories like decorative planters, wall fountains, garden bells, and outdoor umbrellas.

Planning Your Patio or Deck – The Basics

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Sometimes it’s not a bad ides to start with the basics. We often use the phrase patio/deck, but there is an important difference.

A patio is a flat space, usually at ground level. A deck is an elevated space.

A deck is a good choice if your site is sloped or uneven. It can be built from a second (or even third) floor and provide a view if you’re lucky enough to have one. When you build a deck, you can use the elevation changes of the landscape to do and sorts of creative touches, like platforms, level changes, or interesting stair configurations.

Patios, on the other hand, can be made with a wider variety of materials than decks, materials such as gravel, concrete (or concrete pavers), bricks, flagstone, or tile, just to name a few. A patio doesn’t require a railing and leads directly into your yard or perhaps intriguingly into a woods or garden.

Most of the time, the situation of the terrain and the access to the house determine the choice of a patio or a deck.

If you don’t have an architect or landscape designer to do it for you, or if you have input into the design of your deck or patio, here are some things to think about.

First are the obvious practical considerations. How will you access the space? From which door? Since cooking outside is popular these days, you might want to consider accessing your patio from your kitchen.

How about the view? If your deck is lucky enough to provide a view, accessing it from sliding glass doors from your living room is a way to share the view from both places.

Not only is the way you get to your patio/deck important. It’s also necessary to think about how you want to leave it, and to where. Steps off a patio/deck can be a way to get to your backyard, so plan carefully where you want to wind up. You’ll want to avoid egresses that lead you to your heat pump or where your trashcans sit on pick-up day.

Then there’s the question of size. Are you planning on entertaining on your deck? How large are your parties? Will you be cooking there? And eating? Might you want to have a large outdoor grill?

And don’t forget how your patio or deck will affect the view from your windows, or the views inside. Do you want your guests to see into a bedroom or bathroom from your deck?

Secondly, there are aesthetic considerations-an aspect of outdoor planning that is often overlooked. The best way to design your patio or deck is to take your house plan, the one that shows your house and property lines, and look at how the shape of your house relates to the shape of your property. The most pleasing desk or patio shape often coordinates with your property lines, mimicking the angle or angles.

You can sketch right over the plans or, better yet, tape some tracing paper over it and try different shapes until you get one that “makes sense.” If the design looks good on paper, it will look good when it’s built. This is the approach that landscape architects and designers use.

Once you have your basic plan established, then you can begin to think about things like materials, railing, and outdoor furniture. But, for many years after, you’ll be glad you had the basics right.

Wedding Receptions For Less Than $500.00

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Did you know you can create a lovely wedding reception for less than $500.00?

The ideas for great inexpensive receptions are only limited by your imagination! Here is one example of how a bride and groom leveraged their wedding budget to hold two wedding parties and one dream Italian honeymoon.

The wedding reception was at two o’ clock in the sanctuary of the church. Immediately following the beautiful ceremony, a simple but very elegant outdoor reception was held in the courtyard of the church.

The mood was that of an Italian villa. The menu was inspired by the couples love of all things Italian.

The guests were welcomed into the courtyard of the church by the sound of a string quartet and the clinking of antique silver ladles serving a delicious trio of Italian themed punch recipes.

Three beautifully appointed round tables create a lovely setting for the punch stations. The center table was adorned with a tall majestic display of wedding flowers. Each table was dressed with linen finery that beautifully coordinated with the brides color palate.

Wreaths of greenery and wedding flowers wrapped elegantly around the base of each punch bowl.

Serving staff wore the traditional black and white attire with long bistro aprons, they passed miniature Italian inspired appetizers to guests.

On a nearby table a beautiful and delicious Italian Cream Wedding Cake was served at the appointed time.

At 4 o’clock the newlyweds dashed off in a Ferrari to the airport to catch a flight to Venice, the destination for their two week Italian honeymoon.

By doing a simple afternoon wedding reception in the church courtyard, the bride and groom were able to channel more funds to their honeymoon.

Instead of doing one very expensive wedding reception, this couple decided to do two parties (one immediately following the wedding ceremony) and another in their new home after they return from their dream honeymoon.

This was a couple that created great bang for their buck by redistributing their available funds in a smart way!

This reception actually had a price tag of less than $500.00

Hard to believe, isn’t it?

If you want to use the first attempt, you must of course make UN-unbalanced and make this might be necessary saw out a piece of one of the legs, then again if you want the character and you will not be used for wood working, you can maintain the cockeyed as a memento of the first table you have done.

How could you have gathered but table plans, simple, are so hard to draw. Remember and if firm, then look at some other similar plans. Give a Visual, something can work with the mind. Sit Down Brunches in Orange County, California

Image : http://www.flickr.com

After a hard week, whether at work or after a stressful experience, sometimes you just want someone to serve you when you go for brunch. In Orange County, California, there are many fine restaurants that do just that, many of which are also family friendly! There are several established:

In Costa Mesa, the first two are literally within walking distance of each other and it is the best prepared for a wait. While both in narrow strip shopping centers, wordcertainly on good food and service.

Plum's Cafe, the more "luxury" of the two. The owner is from Oregon and the importation of all berries, pepper and bacon, maple ham, coffee and art (all for sale!) From her house. The menu is nice runs on home comfort food. From the outside, you would never believe that the treasure within. Luckily, coffee outside, and when the stomach growls, the bakery case, too many goodies to help you on the wateropens up a table!

The Omelette Parlor is a funky place, with pictures of old Orange County, and memorabilia on the walls. The wait staff, dresses as if they have received style tips from Cyndi Lauper. All food is comfort-based and very large portions. It's a fun atmosphere for everyone. Be sure to try the homemade apple butter!

If you find the idea of the breakfast along the coast the next big three:

The Cottage Restaurant in LagunaBeach is almost an institution. Literally housed in an old cottage home, it has the usual breakfast fair, but only a short walk to the beach across the street.

Zinc Cafe Pacific Whey Baking Company, and are places where you go and order, but the food comes to you. Both have to take baked goods home with you, believe me, you probably want to remember some of the home-made products to hand, in the morning! Cafe Zinc also has a market, with it, and keepsare based as a vegetarian. But even my meat-loving husband enjoyed our week here. Wei has a small restaurant in Newport Coast, but also three other units, Newport Beach, Ladera Ranch and in the new South Coast Plaza.

Laguna Hills has two attractive places: Mollie's Country Kitchen and the Original Pancake House. Both have great part no lie here! There is plenty for most items that my sister and I shared several dishes and still could not finish. Thesetwo places are very popular, be prepared for a wait for the weekend.
Ideal for family get-togethers.

Huntington Beach has two locations in the city parks. Alice in the park is a small hut is huge, homemade cinnamon rolls to die for. Since the small, there is fortunate to be able to park so the kids play while you wait. Besides, it's great, so great after eating cakes or egg dishes on foot!

The Park Bench Cafe is no place for the rest of thisList, but it is great a beautiful morning! You will sit outside and there are usually many "fixed" there to help you with helping what works best on the menu.

There you have it, a couple of options you have available and order or wait for a seat, but the food, fun and service is worth it when you open your table?

Have a great weekend.
